There are health centres in 25 communities across Nunavut, including regional facilities in Rankin Inlet and Cambridge Bay (with in/out patient capacity) and one regional hospital in Iqaluit. The primary health care providers are nurse practitioners, community health nurses, home care nurses, public health nurses, family physicians, and pharmacists. 

Qikiqtani General Hospital (Iqaluit)

  • The Qikiqtani General Hospital in-patient unit has 35 beds with 20 adult and 15 pediatric beds currently available.
  • In the new hospital, the number of birthing rooms has increased from two rooms to four. The number of day surgery beds has increased from four beds to six.
  • The new hospital houses diagnostic imaging and laboratory facilities and a new emergency room, operating room and facilities for day surgery. Medical records will also be in the new hospital.
  • The former Baffin Regional Hospital, adjacent to the new hospital, houses dietetics, a pharmacy, out-patients department, support services and physicians’/specialists’ clinics.
