Nunavut Nurses Salary

The Government of Nunavut (GN) offers competitive salaries that will vary depending on your experience and education. The GN expresses their salaries in ranges (from 1-25) and steps (from casual-6). A licensed practical nurse (LPN) can start at range 12, step 1, which is $48.11 per hour, to step 6 at $54.64 per hour. At the high end of the scale, a supervisor of health programs which is Range 22, starting at $72.46 per hour at a step 1 to $82.24 per hour at step 6.

Financial Incentives 

Tiered Allowance

Employees may be eligible for $10/hr or $15/hr premium depending on the position and community.

Recruitment and Retention (R&R) Bonuses- 

Full time and job-share employees are eligible for a $3,000 - $5,000 recruitment bonus at sign-on and retention bonuses up to $15,000 paid over 2 years of continuous employment.

Continuous Service Allowance 

All nurses who are employed under group 5 and who provide primary, secondary, acute care and/or emergency services shall receive an allowance of $375/month up to $550/month depending on years of service.

Compensation for Prior Experience

Healthcare professionals receive one pay level increase for every year of completed relevant previous experience.

Annual Special Allowance for Nurses 

Nurses in nursing positions at Community Health Centres receive an annual special allowance ranging from $9,000 too $19,500 based on staffing levels.

Duty Travel Allowances

Casual employees who need to travel to and from communities receive paid travel days, per diems, mileage, and reimbursement for baggage.

Job Sharing

Two or more employees can split the responsibilities of one full-time job in flexible fly in/out rotations ranging from four weeks to more than three months.

Friends and Family Benefit 

The GN covers some costs for healthcare professionals' friends and family visits, including one paid return flight per year and temporary accommodations for overnight stops.

Educational Support

The GN offers one year of tuition in exchange for one year of full-time service (up to 4 years) and up to $5,000 annual loan forgiveness (up to 5 years) for eligible FANS student Loans.

Double Overtime 

Overtime worked after a 12-hour shift is paid at double time.
